Holy shit, housekeepers and bodyguards are usually just there or fluff but these characters brought dimension/depth. It’s one of those stories that draws you in and holds on until the very end and you’re left thinking oh no it’s finished.

Ya know when a miscommunication breaks them up or some other irritating angsty bit comes and ruins the vibe but nope didn't happen. The secondary characters were just as entertaining as the hero and heroine and I am once again awed at the talent to give so much life to a character who is barely in the book and yet left me smiling at just the remembrance of them. Although living with a deadbeat father who lies and cheats, it's the closest thing to love she knows. I really enjoyed listening to Little Dove and think the narrators did a great job of bringing the characters to life. If you like a dark, anti-hero, a little controlling, a lot protective and totally enraptured by the heroine, you’re going to love Maximo.It was definitely worth a credit for me because I know I'll be listening to this book again and again. The heroine did get on my nerves a lot at first with her immaturity, but she had some funny parts so that somewhat made up for it.

I wasn’t sure how I felt at the beginning of the story but I was intrigued and knew I couldn’t stop. Maximo knew the moment that he saw Juliet that she was more than just a pretty girl with terrible luck, but at 17yo she shouldn’t have even been on his radar—so he relegated himself to the role of her caretaker.

Anyway, I was ready and willing to let ALL OF THE ABOVE go because I was under the impression that this book was only going to be around 200 pages and figured the author bypassed all opportunities for plot development to make this book a quick read. Juliet is the yin to Maximo's yang, she is the light to his dark, and we learn he is undoubtedly her daddy. I loved the darkish vibes the storyline entailed, yet also appreciated the laugh-out-loud banter and one-liners! Maximo is the Bomb 💥 the brooding alpha, the possessiveness, the love he has for juliet is everything! Possible Triggers: Yes Murder/violence/kidnapping/criminal activity (on page), captivity (on page), the h is a virgin (on page), the h is 17 when captured but 18 when things start happening between them, and the H is ~15 years older than the h (I think?
