About this deal

With friendly illustrations and simple gameplay that progresses as children learn, it's no surprise that Match and Spell is our bestselling language and literacy game! Match and Spell Next Steps is an excellent follow-on from this game for children aged 5 and over.

This game has been designed to introduce children to spelling a range of first words. It is not a full alphabet game and therefore does not include all letters of the alphabet. The Orchard Toys Match and Spell game is a fun first spelling game. This educational game encourages letter recognition, phonetic word building and matching pictures to words. Kids can build 3 and 4 letter words, with 2 sides to each word card.Once children become more confident, they can turn over the boards to use the blank side for a more challenging game. The game is finished once all the word boards have been completed. Like Match and Spell, it is a beautifully presented little spelling game perfect for children looking to develop their spelling skills. The box comes with 78 letter cards, and 18 double sided word boards. With friendly illustrations and simple gameplay that progresses as children learn, it's no surprise that Match and Spell is our bestselling language and literacy game! Match and Spell Next Steps is a great follow-on from this game for children aged 5 and over. The difference with this to Match and Spell is it has longer words such as “Flower,”“Rabbit” and “Stork and digraph letter combinations for slightly older children. Match and Spell is designed to encourage letter recognition, teach phonetic word building and promote matching of pictures and words, from simple words like ‘cat’ to more complex four-letter words. There are two ways to play, and the game is designed for both guided and independent word building.

To make the games more challenging, the letter cards can be placed face down on the table for a matching and memory game. The game is at its best when you can spread out the letter cards so your children can look through them all clearly. As such, this is the perfect floor game. Get some cushions, throw out the letters and spend some quality time with your children. Having fun and helping their language and spelling skills. The box has a mix of single letters, double and triple letter digraphs. “Knight” for example is spelt with a “Kn”, “igh” and a “t”. I found this to be the most challenging word in the box for my 4 year old, but after a few plays, she was able to spell this on her own quite easily. I saw the progression in her confidence and abilities after just a few plays with this over a couple of hours. The game helps children with the digraphs but showing a solid line where more than one letter is expected Floor Play The other side is blank to help promote language and literacy skills, so as your child grows in their confidence and spelling, they can try to spell the word on their own.
