About this deal

Glengoyne 12 stands out among renowned 12-year-old malts like Glenlivet and Glenfiddich, and holds its own alongside the benchmark Macallan Double Cask 12. By air-blowing the malted barley instead of using peat for drying, Glengoyne 12 offers a smooth and clean Single Malt experience, completely devoid of any smoky or peaty notes.

Here, I’ve immersed myself in the art of crafting Mezcal, gaining a newfound appreciation for the craftsmanship that goes into distilling this ancient spirit. The name “Glen Guin” translates to “herd of wild geese,” referring to the distillery’s surroundings. Glengoyne 12: Price Palate: Very strong oak, can definitely taste the barrel. Tingles the tongue. But very sweet, apples and apricots. Water actually brings out more oak, but other citrus flavours which help to soften it. Honey and treacle. With hints of pepper and spice. Almonds. Taste: Some sherry right away. Toffee apples. Orange and lemon. Slightly woody with cinnamon and ginger. Decent weight to it considering the low abv. My journey into the world of spirits began as a pub owner, where I cultivated memorable experiences for patrons and nurtured a deep appreciation for fine liquors.

This time-tested method of drinking whisky has been embraced by the Scots and is recommended to enhance your whisky-drinking experience. Alcohol content A dram of real quality and sophistication. Young Glengoyne is often wonderfully malty, whilst older versions are sherry dominated. The 12 year old is where we start to see the sherry exert itself. It isn’t in command yet but it’s flexing its muscles so to speak. Very well balanced and great value for money. It is an excellent choice for whisky enthusiasts who prefer the pure, unadulterated flavors of a smoke-free expression. Is it chill-filtered? Smell: Honey, apple and orange zest. Toffee. Malted barley. Shortcrust pastry. Woody spice. Touch of sherry. Vanilla.

However, it is recommended to consume the remaining 25% of the bottle sooner rather than later, as the flavor may start to deteriorate over time. Glengoyne 12: Specs Type of Whisky Finish: Long, very long. Warms and tingles. More autumn fruits, aswell as hawthorn leaves. More spices, nutmeg. Water improves the spice and brings out notes of rum and raisin, crystalized ginger and even tobacco hints. Overall: This malt has a lot going for it. Despite the recalcitrant nose, there is a delectable balance of nutty and fruity notes on the palate that is unrivaled by sherried malts in this price range. The balance here is impeccable, and the finish is flawless – no overly-wooded character flaws. While I still prefer GlenDronach for all-in sherry, this malt contends with Balvenie DoubleWood 12 for the “mid-priced partially sherried malt” slot in my cabinet. We sampled this bottle on the 14th of November 2012. Although it was harsh at first and had very divided opinions, it is actually a very pleasant dram. As with all cask strength whiskies, it improves with a dash of water. If we decide not to exercise or enforce any right or provision of these Terms, such decision shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision. Palate: Soft and silky. Light fruits and nut butters initially, very well integrated. Like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in distilled form – very unlike anything else I’ve tried, although it reminds me a bit of Glenrothes.
